Lewis’ Parnello and Richardson Earn All-GLVC Women’s Soccer Accolades

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University seniors Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) and Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) were named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Teams, the conference announced on Thursday (Nov. 14).

Parnello was named to the first team for a second straight season while Richardson earned second team honors for the second year in a row.

"I'm really happy for both Kailey and Mal to be recognized by the conference coaches," Lewis women's soccer coach Chris Koenig said.  "They have put a great deal into their careers and the honor is well deserved."

Parnello led the GLVC in shots with 84, shots per game (4.42), was tied for second in the league in points with 21 and was third in goals with eight. She was also tied for second in the conference in assists with five and was tied for fourth in game-winning goals with three.

"Kailey has been one of the top forwards in the conference during her time at Lewis," Koenig said.  "She put up excellent numbers despite other teams really focusing on shutting her down.  It is a difficult position to be the face of the program and try to repeat the success she had last year.  I'm proud of how she handled it and happy she was rewarded for her hard work."

Richardson was tied for seventh in the conference in assists with four. She recorded one assist each at Tiffin, at Maryville, and against Truman and Quincy.

"I couldn't be happier for Mal that she was recognized again this year," Koenig said.  "Mal truly loves the sport.  She made an effort to enjoy every experience this year as a senior and along the way continued to show she was one of the best midfielders in the conference.  I'm really happy she was able to finish her career as an all-conference player."

Abby Gustafson (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) was recognized as Lewis' women's soccer nominee for the conference's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.

The Flyers finished the season with a record of 8-8-3, 6-6-3 GLVC and advanced to the GLVC Tournament for a second consecutive season.
