Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The Lewis University women's basketball team won its first game of the 2025–26 campaign in a defensive brawl against Davenport.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) led the way with 15 points, with
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) adding 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) was strong on the defensive end with 3 blocks and 5 points for the Flyers.
Justina Hernandez (Carol Stream, Ill./UW-Milwaukee), coming off the bench, added 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Ellie Toney for the Panthers had a game-high 16 points with 10 rebounds and 2 assists. Several players for Davenport scored 6 points, with Maddie Geers and Maya Mitchell supplying 6 rebounds each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis started strong in the opening minutes of the first quarter, playing tight perimeter defense and contesting several of Davenport's layups. A Bueno three gave Lewis a 10–2 lead with 4:43 remaining in the first. The Panthers responded with a 10–1 run to take a 12–11 Davenport lead at the end of the quarter. The Flyers were outscored in the second quarter, 12–8, and went into halftime down 24–19.
The Flyers took over in the third, outscoring the Panthers 16–11. It began with a layup by Cesarini, followed by a layup from Bueno and a tip-in by Cesarini. Jones, Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, IL/Loyola-Chicago) and Hernandez added a few more points to tie the game at 35.
The Flyers held the Panthers to 7 points in the fourth quarter while scoring 13 to pull away for the win. Cesarini scored 8 points in the fourth, including 2 from the charity stripe. Flyers win 48–42.
GAME NOTES
- The last time Lewis scored 50-or-less points and still won was agaisnt #8 Missour S&T, 50-42, in the first round of the GLVC Women's Basketball Championship on March 8, 2013.
- Jones set her career high in blocks with 3; her previous record was last season against McKendree on February 13.
- Through three games, Bueno (114), Cesarini (110) and Ramage (100) are the only Flyers with triple-digit minutes so far this season; Jones is fourth with 74.
