ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - In the first dual matches of the season, the Lewis women's tennis team earned a pair 9-0 victories over visiting Illinois Wesleyan and St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
The Flyers began the match against IWU winning all three doubles matches. Lewis'
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary, Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and
Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill., O'Fallon) defeated IWU's Andrea Kerwin and Helen Alex, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and while at No. 2 doubles,
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary, Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and
Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind., Evansville Central) earned an 8-1 victory over Lauren Drawbridge and Alissa Goetz. At No. 3,
Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill., Boylan Catholic) and
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill., York) took down Lauren Casey and Tara Casey, 8-2.
Kranczicki earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Kerwin while Lanstiak won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Alex at No. 2. Hargrove defeated Drawbridge 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and at No. 4 Brown triumphed over Goetz, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, Markgraf defeated Svenja Schroeder 6-1, 6-0 and Mills beat Tara Casey 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
In the night cap against St. Francis (Ill.), the Kranczicki/Hargrove duo defeated Anne-Christine Tompkins and Danielle Emola, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while Lanstiak/Brown won an 8-2 match over Princess Clemente and Leah Fuessel at No. 2. Markgraf and Mills completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 winning an 8-2 decision over Heather Storm and Mary Betzwiser.
At No. 1 singles, Kranczicki took down Clemente, 6-0, 6-0 while Lanstiak defeated Tompkins, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Hargrove won the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Emola.
Brown triumphed over Fuessel, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Markgraf won at No. 5 over Storm, 6-0, 6-1. Mills completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Betzwiser.
The Flyers return to action on October 6th as they take on St. Louis at 2:30 p.m.
