JENISON, Mich. - After battling illness and missing practice time earlier in the week, Lewis redshirt senior
Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia, Audentese) battled through and claimed the singles bracket championship on Sunday (Sept. 25) afternoon at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Grand Valley State at Jenison High School.
"He (Lapimaa) had an awesome performance and was sharp from the beginning today," head coach
Brett Bridel said. "It is a great win for Uno, our tennis program and for Lewis University."
The Tallinn, Estonia native claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Drury's Lukas Kriem in the semifinals before taking down Kriem's teammate Roman Gonda in the final match, 6-3, 6-3. Lapimaa did not drop a set in the tournament and will now head to Mobile, Ala. October 13-16 for the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships.
The Flyers return to action on October 6th as they take on St. Louis at 2:30 p.m.
