Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--As a chief example of anything can happen in a soccer match, the Lewis University women's soccer team didn't record a shot on goal, but came away with a 1-1 tie against Quincy Friday night.

The Flyers (2-9-1, 0-5-1) halted a six-game losing streak by taking a 1-0 lead against the Hawks and holding on through double overtime for the tie. What was most intriguing about the match was that Lewis' goal came on a Quincy own goal at 55:39. A ball was served into the goal area and a Quincy player trying to head the ball out of the goal box, sent the ball into her own net.

The Hawks (2-5-4, 1-4-2) managed to tie the game on an Angie Hermesmeyer goal at 82:09.

Neither team registered a shot on goal in the two overtimes and the result was a relief-rendering tie for the Flyers.

Lewis' next game will be at home Sunday, Oct. 10 when the team hosts SIU Edwardsville at 2:30 p.m.
