Lewis Hall of Fame

The Lewis Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1980.  It presently consists of 182 individuals and 7 teams.  The inaugural induction ceremony took place in March of 1980, with eleven individuals making up the first class of Inductees.
The purpose is to provide lasting recognition to those individuals and teams who have brought honor and prestige to the Lewis University Athletics program by their excellence in sports competition, notable career accomplishments, exemplary contributions to the betterment of humanity, and/or unique and significant service to the athletics program.
 
Criteria for Nomination
No automatic criteria will be utilized for nominations. Nominees must be individuals and teams who have brought honor and prestige to the Lewis University athletics program by their excellence in sports competition, notable career accomplishments, exemplary contributions to the betterment of humanity, and/or other unique and significant service to the athletics program throughout one’s lifetime. Special recognition may be granted where it is deemed appropriate by the selection committee and special circumstances prevail. High standards of athletic-related performance, personal conduct, and/or selfless support of the athletics program throughout one’s lifetime, should guide the selection committee in considering any individual or team for membership in the Lewis University Athletics Hall of Fame.
 
Nomination Procedure
Nominations may be made to the Selection Committee by anyone, and individuals or teams not selected shall remain on the list for consideration for a five-year period (automatic re-nomination for this period of time). The selection committee will meet at prearranged dates to consider nominees. Nominations are preferred in writing with supporting evidence of the nominee’s qualifying accomplishments and should be received at least one month prior to the annual date of nominee consideration by the Selection Committee. Up to seven individuals from the combined categories of former athletes, former coaches and administrators, and distinguished candidates may be inducted in any one year. No more than 3 teams may be recognized annually. Nominations will not be publicly disclosed.

Selection Committee
The Director of Athletics will serve as chair of the group for determining the makeup of the Selection Committee and will be responsible for initiating procedures for the committee to complete its responsibilities on an annual basis. The composition of the committee will reflect appropriate representation by gender, sport and ethnic diversity. 
 
Induction Ceremony
The annual Hall of Fame Ceremony will be coordinated by the Athletics Department. The honorees will be invited to attend and participate in the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. It is important that the honoree, a close family member or significant other representative be present to accept the accolades of the Hall of Fame body. A permanent plaque, or other appropriate identifier, will be placed within the athletics facilities, and a similar award with the name of the individual inscribed to be presented to the honoree. Members of teams which are inducted as a unit will receive an appropriate memento of the occasion and a team plaque will be placed on the designated wall of recognition.
