A blistering first half from Lake Superior State led the Lewis University women's basketball team to fall in its 2004-05 season opener.
Turnovers and a hot-shooting opponent resulted in Lewis (0-1) falling 81-60 to LSSU (1-0). The Lakers shot 59.3 percent from the field en route to building a 43-31 halftime lead against the Flyers. In addition, Lewis committed 27 turnovers in the game.
Sophomore Mary Moskal paced Lewis with 17 points and seven rebounds. She was 6 of 11 from the field and went 5 of 7 from the free-throw line.

Lewis led 15-13 with 12:50 left in the first half, but a 3-pointer from LSSU's Randi Johnson gave the Lakers the lead for good at 12:15.
Johnson was a thorn to the Flyers in last season's 97-81 loss to LSSU in Romeoville; she was an even greater nuisance in this meeting as she netted 29 points on 10 of 12 shooting. She also was 5 of 5 from 3-point range.
The Flyers will continue its tough season-opening schedule as it travels to Ferris State on Tuesday. Ferris State was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division behind Lake Superior State. Lewis will visit the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Nov. 16.
