ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Darcee Schmidt scored two of her game-high 26 points on a lay up with 2:36 to play that capped a Lewis comeback that overcame a 16-point first half deficit to visiting Kentucky Wesleyan.

Schmidt's lay up put the Flyers (4-3, 3-1 GLVC) up for good and she helped clinch the game a minute later when she buried a 3-pointer from the left wing, her fourth 3-point basket of the game, putting the Flyers ahead 66-62. Lewis would make 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

Schmidt finished 8 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and 4 of 8 from 3-point range. She also added six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Her performance came on the heels of a 25-point showing in Lewis' 85-70 win over Southern Indiana on Thursday.

A revamped Kentucky Wesleyan (4-3, 2-2 GLVC) women's basketball team rode a tide of hot shooters to a 44-37 halftime lead.

The Panthers, who are a combined 26-81 over the past four seasons, played nothing like the team that was defeated twice by the Flyers in 2003-04. Sporting nine new players, KWC was carried to its seven-point halftime margin by the 14 points from freshman Laura McClintic. In the stanza, McClintic was 5 of 6 from the field, including 4 of 5 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Lewis remained close through the efforts of Darcee Schmidt and sophomore Mary Moskal. Schmidt tallied 15 points and was 5 of 8 from the field, while Moskal added eight points.

Lewis trailed by as many as 16 points following a 16-4 KWC run that put the Panthers ahead 34-18 with 6:48 to play in the half.

The Flyers were able to counter with 9-1 run in the next three minutes to trim the lead in half to 35-27 with 2:39 left to play in the half. Lewis sophomore Erin Cox kept the score under double digits at the half with a 3-pointer just before the buzzer.

After a pair of Schmidt free throws cut KWC's lead to 54-53 with 11:21 to play in the second half, the score remained within three points until the final minute of play.

Moskal gave Lewis its first lead in the half with a pair of free throws at 10:17. It would be the only lead the team would hold until Schmidt's lay up seven and a half minutes later.

Moskal finished with 14 points and nine rebounds and was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line. Also contributing were Shante Glenn (11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals), Cox (9 points) and Chelsea Francik (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks).
