ROMEOVILLE - Anthony Scala scored 17 points on 5-of-10 3-point shooting and grabbed a career-high 8 rebounds for Lewis, but Kentucky Wesleyan outscored the Flyers 8-0 in the final minute and escaped Neil Carey Arena with a 64-56 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory Saturday.

Scala's 5 treys were one shy of his career high. Steve Turner scored 15 points and Randy Wright recorded career highs of 8 assists and 5 rebounds (tied) for the Flyers, who fell to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC.

Lewis led 29-25 at halftime after holding Kentucky Wesleyan (4-2, 3-1 GLVC) to 30 percent overall shooting (9 of 30) and a 15.4 percent effort (2 of 13) from 3-point distance in the first 20 minutes.

Scala's 3-pointer at 8:26 broke a 5-minute scoring drought for both teams, and when Dustin Warfield made a layup on Lewis' next possession, the Flyers had their biggest first-half lead, 22-15, with 8:01 left.

After the Panthers forged a 10-3 run that produced the fifth tie of the first half, 25-25, with 3:11 to play, the Flyers regained momentum and a 4-point halftime lead with two Turner baskets in the closing moments.

Turner was 6 of 8 from the field and scored 12 points in the opening period, while Scala hit 3 treys and tallied 9 points. Wright and DeAndre Williams registered 7 and 4 assists, respectively, as the Flyers had an assist for each of their 13 field goals.

Lewis matched its biggest lead of the game when Scala's 3-pointer at 15:49 made it 38-31. Kentucky Wesleyan followed with an 8-0 spurt to gain a 39-38 edge at 13:16 and set the stage for a nail-biting stretch run.

The rest of the game featured four lead changes and four ties. Lewis netted two free throws on each of three consecutive possessions to turn a 49-43 deficit into a 49-all tie with 5:39 left. The Flyers came back again later, this time after trailing by 5, when Williams' driving layup and Scala's 3-pointer knotted the game at 56 with 0:55 remaining.

Unfortunately, that concluded the Flyer scoring. Antonio Bright rebounded his own miss and made a layup on KWC's next possession, and David Byrd followed with 2 free throws and a layup to secure the visitors' win.

Bright led all scorers with 21 points and added 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Franklyn Ferguson tallied 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, Byrd scored 12 points and Matt Enos had six assists for Kentucky Wesleyan, which shot 52 percent (13 of 25) in the second half.

The Flyers host non-conference opponent Illinois-Springfield Monday at 7:30 p.m. before playing GLVC games at Northern Kentucky (Thursday) and Indianapolis (Saturday).
