INDIANAPOLIS - Lewis University's smothering defense shut down University of Indianapolis sharpshooter David Logan in the Flyers' 66-63 victory over the Greyhounds in January.

Logan, the GLVC's third-leading scorer with a 19.4 average, was 0 of 8 from 3-point range and managed just 10 points in that contest at Neil Carey Arena.

The junior guard turned the tables Thursday night at Indy's Nicoson Hall, however, scoring a game-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc in the Greyhounds' 65-64 upset of No. 11 Lewis.

The loss dropped Lewis to 19-3 overall and 13-2 in the GLVC, but the Flyers still lead Southern Indiana by two games in the league standings. Indianapolis improved to 17-6, 10-6.

Following five early lead changes, DeAndre Williams (Chicago, Ill./St. Francis de Sales) hit a jumper at the 12:12 mark of the first half to give Lewis a 15-14 edge.

The Flyers, who shot 53.6 percent overall and 54.5 percent (6 of 11) from 3-point distance in the first 20 minutes, gradually pulled away from that point and led by 10 twice before settling for a 38-30 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Lewis weathered one Indianapolis storm but could not fight off the Greyhounds down the stretch.

Trailing 43-33, Indy scored seven points in a little more than a minute to slice the Lewis lead to 43-40 with 16:21 remaining. The Flyers responded with Austin Real (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West)'s short jumper and a free throw and basket by Steve Turner (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods), and it was 48-40 Lewis with 14:27 left.

The Flyers' lead floated between five and nine points for the next 10 minutes before Indianapolis made its decisive move with an 11-0 run.

Logan began the Greyhounds' blitz with a 3-pointer, Jason Wright followed with a basket and Cory Bennett tied the game at 61-all with a pair of free throws.

Rodney Rollins' bucket and Wright's two free throws concluded the surge, and Indy led 65-61 with 2:31 left.

Sidney Holmes (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) tried to wrestle back the momentum for Lewis on the Flyers' next possession. Holmes made the first of two free throws, and Real grabbed the errant second attempt. When Real's follow shot missed, Holmes gathered the rebound and brought the Flyers to within a point with a layup.

Holmes made a steal on Indy's next possession. Turner missed a 3-pointer, but Demitrius Hunter (Silvis, Ill./United Township) collected the rebound and the Flyers called a timeout with :54 left.

Things looked bleak moments later when Hunter committed a turnover, but Logan's missed 3-pointer and Holmes' rebound with :10 remaining left the door open. Turner misfired on another 3-point try, however, and the Flyers couldn't manage a final attempt despite another Holmes offensive rebound.

Poor shooting hampered Lewis in the second half, as the Flyers were 10 of 34 overall (29.4 percent) and 1 of 11 from beyond the arc. Lewis finished at 40.3 percent overall and 31.8 percent (7 of 22) in 3-point attempts.

Indianapolis shot just 35.5 percent from the floor and was just 3 of 10 in 3-point shooting outside of Logan's 6 of 11. The difference was at the foul line, where the Greyhounds shot 19 free throws to the Flyers' nine and outscored Lewis 12-7.

Each team gathered 21 offensive rebounds, with Lewis winning the overall rebounding battle 44-39.

Ryan Hixson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Wright tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds in support of Logan.

Monta McGhee (Chicago, Ill./Robeson) led Lewis with 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Turner scored 12 points, Real registered 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and Holmes finished with 11 rebounds and four assists.

Lewis is at Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon.
