Pellizzari's 1st Goal of Season Draws Lewis Close in Tough Loss

Sept. 28, 2003

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis women's soccer team pressed the second half of play against Quincy September 28, but two first-half goals were too much to overcome, as Quincy beat Lewis 2-1.

Quincy (5-3-1, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) outshot Lewis 19-6 in the first half, and Lewis goalkeeper Courtney Hutt (Belvidere, Ill./Boylan) was forced to make nine saves in the half.

Quincy's Erin Ollech found the net twice on unassisted goals-18:44 and 39:16-to give the Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead.

However, Lewis was able to turn the tide in the second-half as it held Quincy to just three shots, while the Flyers fired nine shots.

Loren Pellizzari (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) cut the Quincy lead to one at 83:06 following a scramble in front of the Quincy net. Michelle Sternbauer (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) and Jenna Volpi (Chicago, Ill./Immaculate Heart of Mary) were credited with assists after each of them launched shots whose rebounds eventually led to Pellizzari pushing the ball into the net.

Lewis falls to 3-8-0 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC with the loss. The Flyers' next game will be Friday, October 3 when they host Wisconsin-Parkside at noon.
