ALLENDALE, Mich. -
The Lewis women's soccer team was beaten 4-1 by No. 7-ranked Grand Valley State in a non-conference game Sunday.
The Flyers (3-9-1) were handled well by the Lakers (10-1-0), as GVSU outshot Lewis 38-3 and produced 20 corner kicks compared to Lewis' one.
Jenna Volpi (Chicago, Ill./Immaculate Heart of Mary) put the Flyers on the board with less than five minutes remaining (85:48), scoring her second goal in as many games and her third in Lewis' past five games. Volpi leads the Flyers with five goals on the season.
Lewis will spend next weekend on the road as it attempts to place itself in position to qualify for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. The Flyers travel to Indianapolis October 10 and then face Saint Joseph's on October 12.
