Lewis Finishes 2003 Season With Much To Build On

Oct. 25, 2003

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team concluded its 2003 season with a 7-1 loss to Northern Kentucky.

Lewis closes its season 4-13-2 overall and 1-7-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Flyers dramatically improved their play from one season ago. Lewis was winless with a 0-13-1 (0-9-1 GLVC) mark in 2002. In his first full season as head coach, Bill Bruno has helped make the team far more competitive than it had been. Two goals or fewer decided 11 of the team's 19 games this season. Also, Lewis scored 20 goals this season compared to six in 2002.

Northern Kentucky (13-2-2, 9-0-1 GLVC) extended its GLVC record to 49-0-5 in its last 54 conference games with the victory. The Norse tallied four first-half goals and added three more in the second stanza to clinch the top spot in the GLVC Tournament.

Lewis sophomore Loren Pellizzari (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) ended the shutout on a goal assisted by Caroline Kenny (Leixlip, Ireland/) at 81:55. Pellizzari's tally was her second goal of the season and third of her career; the assist was Kenny's fourth of the year.
