Flyers Avenge Loss to St. Francis with 91-64 Rout

Nov. 25, 2003

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Bolstered by shooting 62.5 percent (20-of-32) in the second half, the Lewis women's basketball team avenged a 62-49 loss to St. Francis last season with a 91-64 drubbing this time around.

The first half appeared eerily similar to last season's game as Lewis led by just two points 36-34 at the break. Senior Kim Harris (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) was the difference in the first half for the Flyers. She was 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, to post 13 points and give the team a needed lift.

"Kim Harris (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) might have been the difference in us winning the game tonight," said Lewis head coach Lynn Plett. "She kept us in it in the first half when we could have been down 10. Instead we went into the half leading by two and we ran from there in the second half."

Bryanne Callahan (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) also had a heavy role in the first half posting eight points and eight rebounds. She closed the night with a double double and had game highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Callahan and freshman Darcee Schmidt (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) led Lewis' second-half run. Schmidt tallied 18 of her 20 points in the second half and finished 7-of-10 from the field to go with six rebounds.

The Flyers shot 55.2 percent (32-of-58) for the game while limiting St. Francis to 33.3 percent (22-of-66). Lewis also outrebounded the Saints 42-34.

Others who chipped in for the Flyers were: Mary Moskal (Cherry Valley, Ill./Rockford Boylan) (eight points, eight assists), Erin Cox (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) (nine points, two blocks) and Cassie Stark (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) (five assists).

Latoya Campbell's 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting and six rebounds led St. Francis. Tiffany Archer added 10 points.

The victory evens Lewis' record at 2-2 as the team heads into its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener this weekend. The Flyers will travel to Wisconsin-Parkside for a 1 p.m. game this Saturday, November 29.
