EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
Lewis hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and take a 48-40 lead, but Southern Indiana clawed back and tied the game at 50-all before slowly pulling away and downing the Flyers 86-76 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Lewis (6-6, 3-2 GLVC) reclaimed the lead 61-60 on a Tracy Buchholz 3-pointer and moved the score to 64-60 on a 3-pointer from Erin Cox on the ensuing possession. However, USI (9-2, 3-2 GLVC) took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from Jamie Truitt with 6:56 to play that pushed the Screaming Eagles to a 66-64 lead.
Shante Glenn set the tone for the Flyers in the first half as her 15 points helped Lewis build a 45-40 lead at the break. Darcee Schmidt added 10 points in the first half as well. The duo went silent in the second half though, as Glenn picked up two points and Schmidt had just three in the second stanza.
Glenn still led the team with 17 points and had a career-high 10 assists. Buchholz shared game-high scoring honors with 17 points and was 6-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc.
USI had six players with at least 10 points and was led by Andrea Engleking's 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Flyers will look to draw above .500 with a conference matchup with Missouri-St. Louis Sunday. Tip off is 1 p.m.
