The Lewis women's volleyball team beat Florida Southern in five games, before losing to nationally-ranked North Florida and Tampa Sept. 5-6.
The Flyers (4-3) won its first two games against Florida Southern, before the Mocs claimed games 3 and 4 to force the decisive fifth. Lewis pulled out the win to earn a 30-21, 30-25, 25-30, 26-30, 17-15 victory.
Katie Gilman paced the team with 23 kills, 25 digs and six blocks. Rory Harrison added 12 kills and nine blocks, while Theresa Nugent posted 12 kills and 15 digs. Maggie Haen had 30 digs to lead the Lewis defense.
No. 17 North Florida (5-0) topped Lewis 30-28, 30-24, 30-28. Harrison led the Flyers with 14 kills and Gilman posted nine kills and 13 digs.
Faced with their toughest match of the weekend, Lewis was downed by No. 1 Tampa 14-30, 28-30, 22-30. For the second straight match, Harrison led the team offensively as she produced 12 kills and a .647 hitting percentage; she also posted four blocks. Lisa Paasch contributed with 11 kills and four blocks.
The Flyers will have a difficult test for the second week in a row when they travel to Northern Kentucky for a NCAA Regional crossover showdown. A member of the Great Lakes Valley conference, Lewis will play teams from the other two conferences that feed into the Great Lakes Region Sept. 12-13.
