Rangers Fell Flyers at Home for Second Straight Year

Oct. 16, 2003

KENOSHA, Wisc. - For the second straight year, Wisconsin-Parkside entered its match with the Lewis University women's volleyball team with a .500 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and came away with the upset victory over the Flyers.

Heading into its trip to Kenosha in 2002, Lewis (13-7, 5-3 GLVC) was 6-0 in league play before dropping a five-set match to the Rangers (11-10, 4-4 GLVC). This year, the Flyers were 5-2 and trailed in the division standings only in the win column; Indianapolis leads the GLVC Green Division with an 8-2 slate.

None of that mattered as Lewis succumbed to 30 hitting errors in a 30-28, 25-30, 25-30, 30-32 loss. The Flyers combined to hit .149 in the match, compared to Wisconsin-Parkside's .246.

Rory Harrison and Theresa Nugent paced the Flyer attack with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. In addition, Nugent amassed 17 digs and five blocks.

Sarah McKinney tallied 13 kills and 13 digs, while Katie Gilman posted 12 kills, 13 digs and five blocks in her first match in nearly two weeks.

Lewis' defense kept it in the match as the team accumulated 102 digs, and was led by Maggie Haen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge)'s team-high 25 digs.

The match is Lewis' lone contest for the week. The team is off until October 24 when it will travel to Northern Kentucky for a crucial divisional matchup.
