The Lewis University men's volleyball team breezed through a conference tilt with NCAA Division III Clarke College in three games.
The Flyers (12-10, 8-3 Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) beat the Crusaders (4-13, 0-13 MIVA) 30-23, 30-22, 30-15 in one hour.
Senior opposite Matt Mueller had a career night as he tallied a career-high 15 kills to lead all players on the evening. He also hit .391 (15k-6e-23att) for the match.
Collectively, Lewis hit .484, while limiting Clarke to a .042 attack percentage. The Flyers finished with 58 kills to Clarke's 24 and bested them in assists (53-22) and blocks (10-5) as well.
Freshman Darek Stieber played the final two games of the match and recorded a career-best seven kills on nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage. He also had a dig and a block assist.
Also in two games, fellow freshman Jared Dayton notched six kills and a match-high six digs, while sophomore Enrique Escalante posted eight kills and four blocks.
The victory was Lewis' fourth straight and pulls the team even with conference-leading IPFW in the win column of the league standings. IPFW is atop the MIVA with an 8-1 conference slate.
The Flyers will go on the road this weekend and travel to Provo, Utah for a pair of matches. Lewis will face George Mason on March 25 at BYU and then play the No.1-ranked Cougars in a rematch of last season's NCAA Championship match on March 26.
