Box Score
EAST PEORIA, Ill.-- -
The Lewis University softball team placed runners on second and third with none out in the first inning and couldn't get the hit it needed to plate a run. That situation turned out to be the closest the Flyers would get to scoring as the team lost an eight-inning affair to Gannon 1-0.
Lewis' Robin Martz roped a triple over the right fielder's head to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Elaina Ktistou reached on a walk and stole second base, putting a pair of Flyers in scoring position. Unfortunately, the Flyers (15-9) were unable to bring the run home and both team remained scoreless for the rest of regulation.
Kristen Porzel held the Golden Knights (13-3) scoreless through 6 2/3 innings before giving way to Carrie Paradzinski. Porzel limited Gannon to four hits and allowed just one runner past second base until the seventh inning.
Gannon loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Paradzinski came on and induced a weak pop-up to end the threat.
With the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth, Gannon at first failed to advance the runner from second. Christina Damis singled to left to move the runner to third and she scooted into second behind the play, putting runners on second and third with one out. Allison Gerger won the game with an RBI groundout to second base. Ktistou fielded the grounder and juggled it in transition to prevent her from cutting down the run at the plate.
