KISSIMMEE, Fla. -
The Lewis softball team had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to Findlay, but the team responded with a 5-2 victory over Dominican (N.Y.) later in the day at the Rebel Spring Games.
Findlay tallied a two-run double in the first inning for its only scoring of the game. Senior Carrie Paradzinski shut down the Oilers the rest of the way, but the Flyers couldn't muster the runs needed to overcome the initial outburst. Paradzinski (4-2) went the distance recording six strikeouts and scattering six hits, including just three after the first inning.
Kalynn Russell doubled in the fifth inning to draw Lewis within one run. Russell's double scored Debbie Peterson who had pinch run for Sarah Staughn; Straughn began the inning with a one-out double to left center.
Against Dominican, freshman Kristy Vanek secured the game with a two-out, two-run double in the fifth. The hit gave Lewis a 5-1 lead that was enough to close out the game comfortably. Dominican scored a run on a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning, but Mary Jaszczak shut the door on the rally with a strikeout that ended the inning.
The Flyers (7-5) picked up a single run in the first, second and fourth innings, respectively. Stacy Davis had an RBI single in the second inning to crack the scoreboard. Amy Yusko reached on a leadoff double in the second and was later brought home on a groundout by Crystal Bowen. Robin Martz had a bases loaded single in the fourth that rounded out the scoring.
