Game 2 Box Score
ROMEOVILLE, Ill.-The Lewis University softball team won its 11th and 12th straight Great Lakes Valley Conference games and Robin Martz extended her hitting streak to 24 games as the Flyers swept a conference doubleheader from Kentucky Wesleyan.
Lewis (32-10, 12-2 GLVC) beat the Panthers (4-28, 1-11 GLVC) 7-0 and 4-2.
Mary Jaszczak (12-4) went the distance in game 1 and threw a one-hit shutout. She held a perfect game through four innings before Carol Richardson doubled to right center field to end the bid. Jaszczak struck out seven and walked none in seven innings of work. The effort was her 11th complete game and fifth shutout in 16 starts this season.
The Flyers opened the game with five runs in the first inning. Martz led off the game with a single to left center and promptly stole second base. She scored a batter later when Elaina Ktistou (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South)'s sacrifice bunt saw the catcher sail her throw into right field. Ktistou then stole second and scored on an RBI single by Amy Roberts. Following a Kristy Vanek walk and a fielder's choice by Amy Yusko, Crystal Bowen doubled home two more runs with a ball in the left centerfield gap. Kalynn Russell capped the inning with an RBI single that scored Bowen.
Lewis added a single run in the fourth inning when Roberts delivered her second RBI single of the game. Lewis picked up its final run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Martz scored on a wild pitch.
A.J. Lagerhausen took the circle in game 2 and moved her record to 5-0 as she registered the complete-game victory. The win also improved her to 4-0 in GLVC play. She worked seven innings giving up two earned runs and five hits. At one point, she retired 14 straight batters before the Panthers mounted a rally in the seventh inning. KWC's runs came in the seventh and they marked the first seventh-inning runs the Flyers have allowed all season.
Martz, Vanek and Yusko each had two hits in the second game. Vanek had two doubles and scored a pair of runs, while Yusko launched a solo home run to center in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the game. Russell and Roberts each had RBI singles, and Bowen added an RBI groundout to complete Lewis' scoring.
The Flyers will look to keep their conference winning streak alive as they host Southern Indiana (20-19, 8-4 GLVC) at noon Sunday.
