Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.-The Lewis University softball team's eight seniors concluded their home careers with a doubleheader sweep in the team's Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season finale.

The Flyers (38-10, 18-2 GLVC) beat Quincy 8-1 and 7-1 to finish with an 18-game winning streak in GLVC play. After losing a conference-opening doubleheader to Northern Kentucky, Lewis proceeded to beat every other team in the league and record the second-most GLVC victories in program history; the 2001 squad holds the school record with 19 wins.

Mary Jaszczak (15-4) wrapped up a perfect 7-0 record in conference play with the complete game victory in game 1. She surrendered just two hits, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter in the win. Her only run allowed came on a solo home run to Quincy's Julie LeMaire. LeMaire's home run ended a 27 2/3 scoreless innings streak for the senior righty.

Offensively, the Flyers jumped on the board with five runs in the first inning and three more in the second to ease their way to victory. Seniors Crystal Bowen and Elaina Ktistou had two hits each, while senior Stacy Davis went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Ktistou broke Lewis' single-season stolen base record when she stole second and third in the fifth inning; she added another stolen base in the nightcap to bring her season total to 23.

Also contributing in game 1, freshman Kristy Vanek had a two-RBI double in the first inning that began the Flyers' scoring. She added an RBI single in the second inning and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. In addition, Amy Yusko went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Missy Kraiss was 2-for-2 as well.

Junior Kristen Porzel continued to silence Quincy's bats in game 2. Porzel went the distance giving up just four hits and one earned run while striking out two. Quincy (29-23, 6-14 GLVC) scored its lone run in the first inning before Porzel closed the door.

The Flyers once again jumped on the board early with three runs in the first inning and four more in the second inning. Robin Martz got things started in the first when she singled to left center to lead off the inning. The base hit extended her nation's-leading hitting streak to 30 straight games. The streak ties her for the fourth-longest hitting streak in NCAA Division II history. Martz later scored on an RBI single by Vanek. The Flyers picked up their second run on a suicide squeeze by Amy Roberts. Their third run came on a first and third double steal that scored Roberts, who had reached on a throwing error.

Martz added an RBI single in the second inning as part of a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored. Roberts concluded Lewis' scoring with a line-shot, bases-loaded single that skipped past the left fielder and allowed all three runners to score.

Ktistou joined Martz in the multi-hit club with a 2-for-2 performance in the second game; she also scored two runs.

The Flyers will complete regular-season play this Tuesday when they travel to Saint Xavier for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. The team will then travel to East Peoria, Ill. where it will be the No. 2 seed in the GLVC tournament. The Flyers will face No. 7 seed Indianapolis (14-22, 7-10 GLVC) in the opening round of the tournament. For complete tournament information, visit www.glvcsports.com.
