RENSSELAER, Ind-The Lewis University softball team scored 15 runs, collected 22 hits and held Saint Joseph's scoreless in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference victories.
Robin Martz went 6-for-8 with four runs scored and two stolen bases in the doubleheader sweep that saw Lewis (27-9, 8-2 GLVC) extend its winning streak to 12 straight games. The Flyers downed the Pumas (10-24, 2-9 GLVC) 8-0 and 7-0, respectively.
Elaina Ktistou also had a stellar day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four stolen bases.
The Flyers utilized the run-rule for a six-inning win in game 1. Carrie Paradzinski (10-5) went four innings before giving way to Kristen Porzel, who recorded the final six outs. Paradzinski picked up the win, and the duo combined to allow just one hit while striking out six.
Mary Jaszczak went the distance in game 2 with a two-hit shutout. Jaszczak struck out three and walked two to improve her record to 9-3.
Freshman Kristy Vanek hit a solo home run in game 1 and had a bases-loaded walk for a two-RBI game. Sophomore Kalynn Russell and junior Amy Roberts added two hits each in game 1. Roberts had a two-run single in the fifth inning that helped open the door for the Flyer rout.
The Flyers will look to extend their winning streak with a GLVC doubleheader against Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. Game time is noon at Indianapolis.
