ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's volleyball team stayed perfect in the Great Lakes Region Crossover with a four-set victory over Michigan Tech Friday night.
The Flyers (7-2) gutted out a 31-29, 30-26, 19-30, 30-25 win in an evenly matched contest. Michigan Tech (2-6) out-hit and out-blocked Lewis, but the Flyers held a slight edge in digs and committed fewer serving errors.
Sophomore Theresa Nugent (Oak Lawn, Ill./Queen of Peace) led Lewis with 20 kills; she hit .255 and added six digs. Freshman Jessica Lockhart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) punched down 15 kills and had 12 digs, while Rory Harrison (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) had 10 kills and a team-best two blocks.
The setting duties were shared between junior Rochelle Ruen (Hope, Idaho/Sandpoint H.S.) and freshman Andrea Morrone (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg). The duo combined for 46 assists in the four games, with Ruen recording 33.
Defensively, libero Maggie Haen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted a team-high 18 digs. Sarah McKinney (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) had 17 digs and Ruen amassed 12 digs.
Michigan Tech had five players with at least 10 kills and was led by Amanda Neuhalfen's 17 kills and .349 hitting percentage. Rosalyn Robinson was the team's most efficient offensive weapon recording 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage.
The Flyers will wrap up play in the tournament Saturday afternoon when it hosts a rematch with 10th-ranked Northern Michigan. Lewis lost to the Wildcats in four games two days ago and will be seeking to end NMU's 29-game regular season winning streak. Match time is 1 p.m.
