ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--For the second time in as many meetings, the Northern Michigan women's volleyball team got the better of the Lewis Flyers in four games.
Lewis (7-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but eventually dropped a 30-26, 21-30, 25-30, 24-30 match to the 10th-ranked Wildcats.
The Flyers beat Northern Michigan (8-0) on the defensive side of the net, but the Wildcats' more consistent offense helped lead them to victory. Lewis held edges in blocks 12-11 and digs 83-80, but was out-hit .202-.143 and had 17 fewer kills (66-49).
Theresa Nugent (Oak Lawn, Ill./Queen of Peace) and Sarah McKinney (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) paced the Flyer offense with 13 kills each. Both players recorded a double-double as they posted 11 and 15 digs, respectively.
Defensively, Rory Harrison (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led the team with seven blocks, while Maggie Haen (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had 28 digs. Nugent added six blocks and Jessica Lockhart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) tallied 16 digs.
