Sept. 12, 2004

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's soccer team fell 5-0 to Great Lakes Region foe Grand Valley State.

The Lakers (4-2) controlled play throughout the match and wound up firing 35 shots to Lewis' three. The Flyers (2-4) managed two shots on goal, while GVSU peppered the Lewis goalkeepers with 16 shots.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hutt (Belvidere, Ill./Boylan) played the first half and surrendered one goal while making five saves. Sophomore Lindsay Frederick (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) entered in the second half and registered seven saves.

Lewis opens its conference season on the road next weekend as the team travels to Bellarmine and Kentucky Wesleyan. The team will be looking to get off to a good start in conference play as they begin against two teams that they had success against a year ago. The Flyers beat Kentucky Wesleyan last season 3-1 and tied Bellarmine 1-1.
