ROMEOVILLE -
Lewis dominated Saint Joseph's in every phase of the game Friday, and a second-half scoring outburst propelled the Flyers to a convincing 5-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Pumas.
Cathal Brady recorded a natural hat trick to give Lewis a 3-0 lead and boost his team-high goal total to seven, and Anthony Marsico scored the final two goals for the Flyers (7-7, 5-5 GLVC). Brady added an assist and TIto Lara had two helpers to give him a team-leading five.
Although Lewis led just 1-0 at halftime on Brady's first marker at 34:45 (Lara assist), the Flyers controlled the action with a 15-6 advantage in total shots and a 6-0 cushion in shots on goal.
Lewis made it 2-0 at the 65:04 mark when Lara's pinpoint corner kick was headed by Scott Hall to Brady, who knocked it in. Brady's third goal at 73:21 featured a rare goalkeeper assist by Brian Byrne, who punted the ball perfectly to a sprinting Brady.
Marsico scored unassisted at 77:18 with a bullet left-footer from a difficult left-side angle, then took a pass from Brady and rifled the ball into the net at 82:56 for his third goal of the year.
Byrne and Anthony Szymel each made one save and combined on the fifth shutout of the year for the Flyers, who host GLVC rival Indianapolis Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Saint Joseph's fell to 5-11, 2-8.
