ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's volleyball team completed a strong weekend with a solid showing against the 12th-ranked team in the nation.
Lewis hosted No. 12 Florida Southern (22-2) and extended the Mocs to four games before falling 22-30, 24-30, 30-25, 23-30.
The Flyers (13-9) played their best in game 3 as they hit a match-high .356 en route to the set win. Lewis led by as many as nine points in the game before settling in for the five-point win.
Florida Southern's full slate of starters returned to the floor in game 4 and Lewis played even with them for the majority of the deciding game. The score was tied at 21-all before Florida Southern scored five straight points, including three straight blocks, to stake a 26-21 lead they would not relinquish.
Junior Theresa Nugent paced the team with 16 kills and seven digs. Freshman Aubrey Dondlinger tallied 11 kills, while Becca Lisle led the team with four blocks.
Setter Andrea Morrone had 42 assists and 11 digs. Libero Abby Hodge had a team-high 14 digs.
