Final Stats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's soccer team played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer against Missouri-Rolla to earn a tie in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Lewis (5-7-2, 2-3-2 GLVC) outshot the visiting Miners (3-7-1, 1-6-1 GLVC) 19-17, but UMR recorded an edge in shots on goal 9-7.

Both teams had a pair of golden scoring opportunities. Lewis' Loren Pellizzari had a near one-on-one with UMR goalkeeper Brittany Parker 10 minutes into the second half, but Parker made a nice play charging out and smothering the shot. Later, Lewis freshman Bethanee Taylor fired an open shot from the top of the goal box that sailed high over the net in the second overtime.

UMR's chances came late in the second half. With a little over 17 minutes to play, Lewis' Caitlin Kelly was whistled for a dangerous play five yards in front of the Lewis goal. Lewis assembled a wall spanning the width of the goal as UMR lined up for the indirect kick. UMR's shot from Maggie Thompson was fired directly into the Lewis wall for a team save that preserved the tie.

With three and a half minutes to play, Sarah Newman almost ended the tie with a pair of shots. Newman's first shot was saved by Lewis goalkeeper Lindsay Frederick, but the rebound came back to Newman who fired a point blank shot that Frederick swallowed up.

Frederick and Parker both played well, earning nine and seven saves, respectively.
