EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
Kelly Dianis set a career high by nailing six three-pointers to lead Lewis past Southern Indiana 71-57 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon at the PAC.
With the win, Lewis improves to 5-3 overall with an East Division leading 3-1 mark in the GLVC.
Dianis totaled 20 points for the game to lead all scorers, and she was the first Flyer to make six treys in a game since Tracy Buchholz hit six against St. Joe's on January 15, 2004.
After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Lewis women put together a 13-3 run to open a 10-point advantage, 21-11 at the 9:55 mark. The Eagles responded with a 10-3 spurt that cut Lewis' lead to three with 6:14 to play in the half, but Lewis managed to build the lead back to five at the break.
The Eagles came within three points of Lewis by knocking down the first bucket of the second half, but they did not get any closer than that. Over the next 1:24, Dianis netted three of her six 3-pointers and Lewis never looked back. The Flyers led by as many as 20 twice during the half before sealing the 16-point win, which matches the team's biggest margin of victory on the season.
Besides Dianis, three other Lewis starters racked up double-digit points. Mary Moskal tallied 15, Darcee Schmidt had 13 and Shante Glenn chipped in 12 points. Defensively, Brittney Diener nabbed seven steals to match a season high in that category set last game by Glenn.
The Flyers held the edge on the glass, grabbing 38 boards to the Eagles 37. At the line, the Flyers were 13-for-17, while the Eagles went 6-for-11.
The Flyers return to action next Saturday when they play at Wisconsin-Green Bay. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
