ROMEOVILLE - Lewis played perhaps its best half of the young season Saturday, scoring 53 points after intermission to turn a five-point halftime deficit into an 80-70 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Indianapolis.

The backcourt tandem of Pat Monaghan and Brandon Dagans ignited the Flyers' second-half outburst. Monaghan scored 14 of his game-high 21 points and Dagans tallied 13 of his season-best 19 points following the break. The duo combined to go 7-of-7 from the field as Lewis shot 64 percent in the final 20 minutes.

John Loeffelholz and Branden Hunter also stepped forward in the second half. Loeffelholz scored eight of his 10 points and Hunter posted seven of his eight points after intermission.

Stephan Bolt turned in his second 10-rebound effort of the season to lift Lewis (4-2, 1-1) to a 35-30 advantage on the boards, and he added three steals and three blocks. Hunter led all players with six assists and Dagans added four helpers.

Lewis trailed most of the first half, but Dagans scored six points during a late 8-0 surge that gave the Flyers a 27-25 edge with 2:45 left. However, Indianapolis (1-3, 1-1) scored the final seven points of the half to take a 32-27 lead into the locker room.

The Greyhounds' lead remained between four and seven points in the first six minutes of the second half before the Flyers came to life. Monaghan hit a jumper, Marcus Scott buried a 3-pointer and Loeffelholz dunked in a 7-0 run that made it 42-all at the 12:37 mark.

That was the first of four ties in the next two minutes. Two Loeffelholz free throws produced the fourth deadlock and, more importantly, began a 10-0 Lewis run - including treys by Monaghan and Hunter - that put the Flyers in front 56-48 with 8:32 to play.

Indianapolis didn't get closer than six points the rest of the way. Lewis maintained control - and even expanded the lead to 15 points - by sinking 14-of-16 free throws in the final 7:34, part of its 20-of-23 performance in the second half. The Flyers finished 24-of-30 at the stripe, led by Dagans' 8-of-9, while Indianapolis was just 13-of-19.

Justin Barnard (15 points, seven rebounds), Jesse McClung (15 points), Luke Blank (12 points) and Scott Strahm (10 points, five assists) led Indianapolis.

Lewis plays its first road game of the season Thursday at GLVC rival Kentucky Wesleyan.
