Dec. 3, 2005

Box Score

ROMEOVILLE - Mary Moskal scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second half Saturday to power Lewis to its third straight victory, a 69-60 Great Lakes Valley Conference triumph over Indianapolis.

Moskal also collected seven of her game-high 11 rebounds during the final 20 minutes en route to her sixth career double-double. She established personal season bests in points and rebounds, and her 11 boards are the Flyers' season high and just one shy of her career best.

Darcee Schmidt and Kelly Dianis combined with Moskal for 35 of the Flyers' 41 second-half points. Schmidt netted 11 of her season-high 17 points after the break and Dianis scored 10 of her 15 points in the final stanza.

Schmidt added seven rebounds and three steals and Shante Glenn registered 10 points and six assists for Lewis (4-2, 2-0), which snapped a four-game losing skid to Indianapolis. The Greyhounds (5-1, 1-1) had won their first five games of the season for the first time in program history.

The Flyers raced to leads of 9-0 and 15-4. But Vanessa Jackson scored 14 of her team-high 20 points in the first half to spark the Greyhounds to a 28-28 deadlock at intermission.

Indianapolis began the second half with turnovers on its first three possessions, and Lewis capitalized. Dianis drilled a pair of 3-pointers and Moskal scored inside following her own offensive rebound, and the Flyers led 36-28 barely two minutes in.

Indy retaliated by scoring the next six points, and the Greyhounds had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead. But Schmidt's steal led to a Moskal layup and gave the Flyers a little breathing room.

Although the Flyers stayed in front the rest of the way, they didn't take complete command until late. A 7-0 mini-run consisting of a Schmidt 3-pointer, a Dianis layup and a Schmidt layup gave Lewis a 64-51 lead at the 3:40 mark, and the margin remained in double digits until a final Greyhound basket.

The Flyers forced 18 Indianapolis turnovers and committed just 11 giveaways. Although edged 38-35 on the glass, Lewis grabbed an impressive 15 offensive boards including five by Moskal. Jackson and Amanda Norris led the Indy rebounding effort with eight apiece.

The Flyers continue GLVC play Thursday at Kentucky Wesleyan.
