OWENSBORO, Ky. - Mary Moskal tallied 25 points and seven rebounds and Shante Glenn added 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and seven steals, but Kentucky Wesleyan's 29-of-33 free-throw shooting boosted the host Panthers to an 83-68 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the Lewis University women's basketball team Thursday night.
Moskal, who was 10-of-18 from the floor, finished one point shy of her career-best 26 points, while Glenn tied her career high for steals.
Mary Czarnecki was 10-of-10 at the foul line and finished with 22 points, and Lauren Stewart added 21 points for Kentucky Wesleyan (3-3, 1-2 GLVC). Laura McClintic registered a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
After Lewis (4-3, 2-1) jumped to an 11-5 lead, Kentucky Wesleyan went on an 18-0 run that established a 23-11 lead with 7:06 to play in the first half. The Panthers, who were 7-of-14 from 3-point range and 10-of-10 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes, led 41-25 at the break.
Moskal (17) and Glenn (12) combined for 29 of Lewis' 43 second-half points as the Flyers mounted a comeback. Moskal scored 10 points during an 18-6 spurt that pulled Lewis to within eight points, 75-67, with 2:09 to play, but Kentucky Wesleyan secured the victory by making 8-of-10 at the foul line down the stretch.
The Flyers were solid at the stripe themselves, connecting on 18-of-24 attempts. Wesleyan, however, supplemented its outstanding charity effort with eight 3-pointers while limiting Lewis to two treys.
The Flyers travel to Southern Indiana on Saturday.
