Feb. 12, 2005

Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Junior Shante Glenn sank a jumper with 28 seconds left and made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to help lift the Lewis University women's basketball team to a 72-69 road victory over Southern Indiana.

Glenn's jumper concluded a Flyer comeback that saw the team overcome a nine-point second-half deficit. The 5-5 guard tied a career high and led all scorers with 30 points. She finished 10 of 15 from the field, was 4 of 5 from 3-point range and was 6 of 9 from the free-throw line. She also added six rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Southern Indiana (12-11, 5-11 Great Lakes Valley Conference) led 49-40 with 17:14 to play, but the Flyers (14-9, 11-5 GLVC) quickly erased that lead with an 11-2 run that tied the game at 51-all with 12:23 remaining. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of the game.

USI's Jamie Truitt hit a 3-pointer that gave the Screaming Eagles a 69-66 lead with just over two minutes to play. However, Lewis' defense clamped down and limited USI to four missed shots and a turnover in the Screaming Eagles' last five possessions.

Also contributing for Lewis, sophomore forward Darcee Schmidt posted 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Mary Moskal added 12 points, four assists and four steals. The trio of Glenn, Schmidt and Moskal accounted for all but six of Lewis' points.

The victory keeps the Flyers in a three-way tie for third place in the GLVC. Lewis is tied with Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky, and the three schools are one-half game behind Wisconsin-Parkside (12-5 GLVC) for second place.

Lewis returns home next weekend for its final home games of the 2004-05 season. The Flyers will have a chance to break the logjam for third place as they host Bellarmine on Feb. 17 and Northern Kentucky on Feb. 19. Game times are 5:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
