Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes against conference foe Northern Kentucky and the cushion proved to be all the Flyers would need as they won 69-61.

Lewis (16-9, 13-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) prevented Northern Kentucky from scoring for the first five and a half minutes of the game. The Flyers forced five turnovers and limited the Norse (14-11, 11-7 GLVC) to 0 of 6 shooting in the stretch.

The remaining 35 minutes of the game were a grind-it-out struggle for both teams. NKU eventually tied the game at 49-all on a 3-pointer from Brittany Winner with 8:11 left in the second half. However, Lewis' Brittany Diener answered with her first 3-pointer of the year to spark an 18-7 burst that pushed the Flyers' lead back to 67-56 with 1:19 to play.

Shante Glenn paced the Flyers with 17 points and five rebounds. Mary Moskal added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Darcee Schmidt had 11 points and four rebounds.

Erin Cox played a crucial role in helping fend off NKU's inside attack. The 6-2 center blocked a career-high six shots and added seven points on the offensive end.

Lewis' victory matches its overall and GLVC win totals from all of last season. The win also keeps the Flyers in third place in the GLVC standings, one-half game behind Wisconsin-Parkside (20-9, 14-5 GLVC).

Northern Kentucky was ranked ahead of the Flyers in the NCAA Great Lakes Region poll, and as a result, the win will also help the Flyers in their quest to earn an NCAA Tournament berth.
