Martz Tallies 7 Hits in Day 2 of Dome Tournament

ST. CLOUD, Minn.--Junior All-American Robin Martz had seven hits in two games at the St. Cloud (Minn.) Dome Tournament.

The Lewis University softball team split its games for the second straight day, beating Upper Iowa 5-2 and losing to Minnesota State-Mankato 9-7.

Martz went 4-for-4, scored two runs and drove in a pair of runs against Upper Iowa. Sophomore Kristy Vanek added two RBI to aid the Flyer offense.

Freshman Ashley LeGrand moved to 2-0 on the season as she went the distance against the Peacocks. She allowed five hits and two earned runs in the complete game effort.

The Minnesota State-Mankato (MSM) game was a back and forth battle that saw MSM win the game in the seventh inning. With the score knotted at 7-7, MSM scored two runs in the top of the seventh to claim the victory.

Kristen Porzel started for the Flyers and surrendered five runs in two innings. Freshman Kasey DeLair came on in relief and pitched well. DeLair gave way to Shannon Roney in the seventh, who inherited two runners from DeLair. Both runners scored and DeLair wound up with the loss.

Martz added three more hits against MSM to complete her day 7-for-9. In addition, Kalynn Russell and Beth Shelus had two hits apiece in game 2.

Lewis completes its opening weekend of play with a pair of games Sunday. The Flyers face No. 16 Missouri Western State and No. 4 St. Cloud State at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
