ROMEOVILLE - Kevin Jakubauskas pitched six strong innings of relief and Billy Duffy had three hits to lead Lewis to a 6-3 win over Upper Iowa and a split of Wednesday's non-conference baseball doubleheader.

In the 7-inning opener, Stephen Anderson allowed just four hits and Tyler Warner belted a 3-run home run in an 8-1 Upper Iowa victory.

Jakubauskas (1-1) earned his first collegiate victory in impressive fashion. He allowed just one unearned run, three hits and two walks while fanning two.

After Upper Iowa (4-5) scored a first-inning run, Duffy led off the Lewis first with a single and scored on Kevin Tyrrell (Naperville, Ill./Montini)'s triple. Mike Loprieno (Bloomingdale, Ill./Driscoll)'s sacrifice fly gave Lewis a 2-1 lead.

The Flyers (2-10) took a 3-2 lead in the third on Phil Marchinski (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville)'s RBI single. Upper Iowa tied it with an unearned run in the fourth, only to see Lewis grab the lead for good with two unearned runs in the bottom half on Duffy's fielder's choice and Sam Sacco (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South)'s RBI single. The Flyers added an insurance run on Victor Naut (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick)'s eighth-inning leadoff home run.

Marchinski and Sacco each had two hits for Lewis, which collected 12 hits for the game.

Brandon Niewinski doubled and scored on Marchinski's double in the fourth inning for the Flyers' only run in the opener. Joe Walsh pitched four effective innings in relief of starter Tommy Rawski (0-2), allowing just one run, six hits and one walk.

The Flyers open Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a four-game weekend series at Missouri-St. Louis.
