KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Lewis University softball team played its two best defensive games of its spring trip, but came up on the losing end as the Flyer bats cooled off.
The Flyers (7-8) lost to 2-1 to both NCAA Division I South Dakota State and Indiana (Pa.).
Lewis' offense had been rolling through its past four games, racking up 42 hits and 35 runs, but the offense had covered defensive deficiencies. The Flyers did not commit an error in either game and ended a streak of eight straight games with at least one error.
In the circle, Kristen Porzel took the loss against South Dakota State, while Shannon Roney was saddled with the loss to Indiana (Pa.). Porzel worked six innings striking out four and scattering eight hits. Roney went the distance striking out three and surrendering six hits.
Offensively, Beth Shelus had an RBI single in each game that brought home the Flyers' only run.
Lewis concludes play on its spring trip Tuesday, March 8 when it plays Central Missouri State and Clarion (Pa.).
