Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Season Opener

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Lewis University women's soccer team opened its 2005 season with a 1-0 loss to Northwood University (Mich.).

The Flyers (0-1), who lost to Northwood 3-0 last season, controlled play for the majority of the first half while playing scoreless over the first 45 minutes. Each team recorded five shots in the period, with Lewis posting the only shot on goal. The Flyers also earned five corner kicks versus the Timberwolves' two corners in the first half.

Northwood's Amy Snyder tallied the game winner when she kicked in a loose ball that had been served into the box by Katie Hunter at 71:42.

Northwood (1-1) turned up the pressure in the second half, outshooting Lewis 12-7 to gain a 17-12 shooting edge for the game.

Caroline Bonygne earned the shutout for Northwood and posted five saves. Meanwhile, Lewis' Lindsay Fredrick registered three saves.

Lewis returns to action Sunday, August 28 when it hosts Northern Michigan at 12 p.m.
