ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Junior outside hitter Theresa Nugent paced a balanced attack as the Lewis University women's volleyball team swept Missouri-St. Louis in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
The Flyers (8-4, 1-0 GLVC), who entered the match losing three of their last four matches, began conference play on the right foot with a convincing 30-14, 30-26, 30-21 victory over UMSL (0-9, 0-1 GLVC).
Nugent led Lewis with 11 kills, while adding six digs, three blocks and a .400 hitting percentage.
Sophomore middle hitter Becca Lisle posted eight kills and a match-high five blocks. Junior Sarah McKinney chipped in with eight kills and a match-high .571 hitting percentage. In addition, freshman Aubrey Dondlinger contributed six kills and three blocks.
UMSL's Claudia Mendina led all players with 16 kills. Heather Nichols had 12 kills and two blocks in the losing effort.
Lewis returns to action Saturday afternoon when it takes on Quincy University at 1 p.m.
