Women's Soccer Falls to No. 12 Grand Valley State

Sept. 17, 2005

Final Stats

ALLENDALE, Mich.--A 2-1 victory over the No. 5 team in the nation will make other opponents serve notice that you're a team to be reckoned with, and the Lewis University women's soccer team found No. 12 Grand Valley State not overlooking the Flyers.

Grand Valley (6-1) used a big first half to quell Lewis' upset hopes in a non-conference match. The Lakers scored five first-half goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Flyers (4-4-1).

Lewis goalkeeper Lindsay Frederick was peppered with shots throughout the game. She faced 38 total shots, including 23 on goal. Frederick registered a career-high 17 saves.

Grand Valley opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Andi Redmond at 15:25. The Lakers added goals at 19:46, 24:01, 31:11 and 43:36 to carry a 5-0 lead into halftime.

Lewis' defense stiffened in the second half and did not allow a goal until there was two minutes left in the game.

The Flyers ended the shutout with 35 seconds remaining when sophomore Allison Wilkerson scored on a free kick for her third goal of the season.

Lewis stays on the road in western Michigan and will travel to Ferris State Sunday for another non-conference matchup. Game time is 12 pm EST.
