ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Minnesota State Moorhead, an NCAA Championship tournament team last season, swept the Lewis University women's volleyball team in Day 2 of Lewis' Flyer Festival.
Moorhead handled the Flyers 30-27, 30-21, 30-21. Lewis led 27-26 in game 1, but surrendered four straight points to lose the game and momentum. Sparked by the win, Moorhead played better as the match wore on, while Lewis receded.
Becca Lisle and Sarah McKinney led Lewis (6-1) with eight kills apiece, with Lisle hitting .350. Lisle also posted a team-high four blocks.
Lewis' offense never got on track as the Flyers hit just .067 for the match.
Meanwhile, MSM (6-0) hit .246 collectively and had three players with at least 10 kills. Megan Norling paced the team with 16 kills, while Sigourney Schaffer (11 kills, .286 hitting percentage) and Jessica White (10 kills, 17 digs) also chipped in.
Lewis rebounded in their second match of the day to beat Saint Leo (Fla.) 30-22, 21-30, 30-21, 30-20.
Theresa Nugent pounded a team-high 18 kills and added 16 digs in the victory. Lisle posted 12 kills while hitting a team-high .346 and registering a team-high five blocks. Aubrey Dondlinger added 11 kills and setter Abby Hodge had 33 assists and 17 digs.
Lewis had 79 digs and 12 team blocks, with five different players recording a solo block.
Saint Leo (2-4) was paced by Erin Oberlin's 20 kills. Kerstin Erickson added 15 kills in three games.
Lewis will conclude play in its annual Labor Day Weekend tournament with a match at 1 p.m. against 21st-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.).
