LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Lewis University women's soccer team lost its fourth straight road game in a 3-1 defeat at Bellarmine University.
Senior Loren Pellizari scored her 10th career goal and third of the season with less than five minutes to play, but the Knights had already built a comfortable 3-0 lead. Pellizarri's goal denied Bellarmine (5-4, 4-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) its second shutout of the season.
Lewis (4-7-1, 1-3-1 GLVC) has been solid at home this season, sporting a 3-2-1 record. However, the youthful Flyers have had difficulty on the road with just a 1-5 record away from home.
Against the Knights, goalkeeper Lindsay Frederick tallied 13 saves. Out of 21 total shots, Bellarmine had 16 shots on goal. Lewis registered seven shots, including three on goal.
Bellarmine's Jamie Halas scored at 2:37 to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Lewis buckled down and held the Knights scoreless for the rest of the first half, but Bellarmine netted a pair of second-half goals (56:25 and 71:48) to claim the victory.
Lewis returns home to face conference foes Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri-Rolla next weekend. The Flyers host UMSL Friday, Sept. 30, and UM-Rolla Sunday, Oct. 2. Game time for each game is noon.
