Flyers Open 2006 Season With Win Over Rutgers-Newark

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lewis Flyers men's volleyball team opened the 2006 season with a 30-27, 31-33, 30-28, 30-24 non-conference win over Rutgers-Newark Friday afternoon in the first match of the Crimson Classic on the campus of Harvard.

David Kelnhofer led the Flyers with a match-high 19 kills and posted a .353 hitting percentage. Teammate Alex Vigansky tallied a match-high .368 hitting percentage by registering seven kills with no hitting errors.

Nick Perakes totaled a match-high 11 digs, while Craig Boller and team captain Drew Pickering amassed 14 and 13 kills, respectively.

The Flyers notched 10 blocks and held Rutgers-Newark to a .191 hitting percentage in the match. Lewis' biggest lead of the match was eight points in the fourth and deciding game.

The Flyers play again on Saturday against tournament host Harvard.
