Box Score

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Mary Moskal (Cherry Valley, Ill./Rockford Boylan)'s team-high 18 points were not enough for the Lewis Flyers in a 79-67 setback to Bellarmine University, Thursday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Neil Carey Arena.

The Flyers fell to 18-8 (14-4 GLVC), while the Knights improved to 13-13 (9-9 GLVC).

Moskal's 18 came on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Darcee Schmidt added 16 points and Shante Glenn was the third Flyer in double digits with 12.

It was a back-and-forth game in the first half, as the teams traded the lead 12 times. Bellarmine enjoyed the biggest lead of the half, seven points, at the 7:38 mark. From there Lewis went on a 12-2 spurt to take a 30-27 lead with 2:27 left in the half.

The three-point advantage was Lewis' largest lead of the night. A Katie Willinger layup on the next possession cut the Flyers' lead to one, and Sarah Todd put the Knights up for good with a 3-pointer at the 1:22 mark of the first half.

Three consecutive free throws by Denosha Mondy with two seconds left put the Knights up by five at halftime.

Bellarmine increased its lead to 11 points by the 13:29 mark of the second half. Lewis managed to slice the lead to six at 10:53 and again at 10:23, but the Flyers could not get any closer.

The Knights outscored the Flyers 15-2 over the next five minutes to take a 19-point lead, their biggest of the night, before cruising to a 12-point win.

Angela Smith led the Knights with 19 points and was joined in double figures by Dana Beaven (12) and Denosha Mondy (12).

Lewis shot 41.7 percent from the field and went 12-of-19 from the line, compared to Bellarmine's 50 percent from the floor and 25-of-31 at the line.

The Flyers conclude their regular-season schedule when they host Northern Kentucky on Saturday at 1 pm. Northern Kentucky holds a one-game advantage over the Flyers for the lead in the GLVC's East Division.
