Drew Pickering and David Kelnhofer each reached double digits in kills, but the Flyers fell to NAIA No. 1 Lindenwood 3-0 (33-35, 22-30, 14-30) Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers dropped to 7-12, while Lindenwood improved to 27-3 on the season.
Pickering had a team-high 14 kills with four digs, while Kelnhofer hit .333 with 10 kills. Mykolai Zerebeckyj added nine kills with four digs, and Alex Vigansky hit a team-best .400 by nailing seven kills. Rob Colombo had a team-high six digs, and Jordan Vidovic led the Flyers with 27 assists.
The Flyers and Lions battled back-and-forth throughout the first game, reaching a tie score on 23 occasions. With Lewis trailing 29-28, Pickering delivered consecutive kills to put the Flyers up 30-29. The teams then exchanged points for the next several rallies before a Flyers' service error followed by a Jared Kreienkamp kill gave Lindenwood the win.
Kreienkamp broke an 11-11 tie in the second game with back-to-back kills and a solo block to help put the Lions ahead for good. The Lions scored first in the third game and never trailed, hitting .467 en route to victory.
Ryan Nicklas notched a match-high 15 kills and was one of three Lions to reach double figures in that category. Kreienkamp added 14 kills, and Joe Deimeke had 12. Kreienkamp and Mike Flierl each posted a match-high seven digs.
Lindenwood out-hit Lewis .490 to .197 and held a 9-2 advantage in blocks.
The Flyers return to the court on Tuesday night when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 pm.
