ROMEOVILLE - Lewis rallied for four ninth-inning runs and had the tying run on deck in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader before Wisconsin-Parkside closed out an 8-4 victory and a sweep of the Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill at Brennan Field.

In the seven-inning opener, Flyer right-hander Ryan Duran looked strong and went the distance but was outdueled in a 2-0 loss.

Lewis loaded the bases in the ninth with walks to Victor Naut and Jon Guzzo and a single by Brian Clancy. Jim Gabriel delivered a one-out single to put the Flyers on the board, and Kevin Tyrrell (Naperville, Ill./Montini)'s two-out single made it 8-2.

Two more runs scored when Billy Duffy (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central)'s pop fly was dropped by the Parkside shortstop, but reliever Nicolas Larson ended the Lewis rally with a strikeout.

The Flyers hit into some bad luck in the eighth. Two hit batters and an error loaded the bases with one out before Darryl Jenkins hit a scorching liner to the shortstop, who stepped on second for an inning-ending double play.

Naut, Tyrrell and Clancy each had two hits. One of Naut's hits was a fourth-inning double, his team-leading sixth two-bagger of the season.

Parkside starter Jeremy Maginn (1-0) allowed six hits and did not walk a batter in seven innings. Adam Stabosz (0-3) took the loss.

Duran (0-2), making his first start, gave just five hits and one walk while fanning three. UWP's Scott Saling (2-3) tossed six innings, striking out seven and yielding five hits and three walks. Todd Lorenz came on in the seventh and pitched around Brandon Niewinski (Morris, Ill./Morris)'s double and an error to notch his third save.

Naut, who doubled, and Niewinski were 2-for-3, and Phil Marchinski doubled.

Parkside improved to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in the GLVC. Lewis, which hosts Kentucky Wesleyan in a GLVC doubleheader Saturday at noon, is 1-17, 0-10.
