ROMEOVILLE - Lewis University junior right-hander Joe Walsh went the seven-inning distance and did not allow an earned run in the Flyers' 2-0 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday in game one of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

In the nightcap, Kentucky Wesleyan broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the fourth inning and went on to a 10-3 victory.

Walsh (0-5) scattered five hits and struck out five. Kentucky Wesleyan's Brandon Brooks (4-1) also went the route, fanning seven and allowing just two hits - singles to Victor Naut and Phil Marchinski - and no walks.

In game two, the Flyers (1-19, 0-12 GLVC) answered Kentucky Wesleyan's two-run first inning with three runs in the bottom half.

Jon Guzzo led off with a bunt single and Kevin Tyrrell reached on a throwing error. Following Darryl Jenkins (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield)' sacrifice, Naut delivered a two-run double to center to pull Lewis even. Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn)'s one-out single scored Naut with the go-ahead run.

Those were the only runs the Flyers plated, however. Kentucky Wesleyan (14-8, 12-6 GLVC) tied it in the second and followed its five-run fourth with insurance tallies in the fifth and seventh.

Billy Duffy was 3-for-4 including a double, Naut was 2-for-3 and Bingham was 2-for-4 with a double.

Jon Crettol (0-2) suffered the loss for the Flyers, who got two innings of one-hit scoreless relief from Tommy Rawski. T.J. Turner (2-1) overcame his rocky start and lasted eight innings for the Panthers.

The teams meet in another doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon.
