Drew Pickering led the Lewis Flyers (5-10) with 14 kills in a 30-22, 30-25, 30-18 loss to No. 9 UCLA Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion.
Pickering hit a team-best .300 and registered six digs. David Kelnhofer added seven kills, while Craig Boller had six. Nick Perakes led the Flyers with seven digs, and Billy Sahagian added four blocks. Jordan Vidovic dished out 32 assists.
The Flyers hit .324 in the first game, but they were out-hit .409 to .188 for the match. The Bruins out-blocked the Flyers 9-5.
Nick Scheftic led the Bruins, hammering a career-high 19 kills (.630) and adding four total blocks for 21.5 points, another career-high. Paul George added nine kills (.429), a career-high four aces and two block assists for 14 points. Ian Jackson came off the bench to add six kills (.455). Eric Chaghouri recorded 12 digs and freshman Matt Wade distributed 47 assists.
The Flyers conclude their west coast swing with a match at California Baptist on Friday night at 7 pm.
