Alex Vigansky hit a team-best .471 with nine kills for the Lewis Flyers in a 3-0 loss (30-23, 30-26, 30-22) to No. 9 Loyola Chicago, Tuesday night in a conference match at Neil Carey Arena.
Drew Pickering led the Flyers (10-17, 3-8) with 11 kills, and David Kelnhofer added six with two digs and two block assists. Mykolai Zerebeckyj hit five kills and registered a match-high seven digs, while Billy Sahagian had four kills and three block assists.
James Grunst led the Ramblers (21-6, 11-1) with 12 kills and also tallied four block assists and three digs. Chris Kozlarek totaled nine kills and four digs. Ian Anderson added six kills, all in the third game, and Ryan Martin notched six digs.
The Ramblers never trailed in the first game, building its biggest lead at 27-18 before closing out the seven-point win.
Behind 27-19 in game two, the Flyers got two kills each from Sahagian and Vigansky and one from Pickering as part of a 7-2 run that brought Lewis within three points at 29-27. The Ramblers claimed victory on the next rally when Kozlarek hit a soft tap to the floor just in front of the Lewis defense on the near sideline.
The Flyers led throughout the first half of game three, but Loyola Chicago nailed three consecutive kills to turn a 16-16 tie into a 19-16 advantage and never looked back.
The Ramblers out-hit the Flyers .394 to .187 and held a 6-5 advantage in blocks.
The Flyers conclude the 2006 season with a home match against No. 15 Ohio State on Friday at 7 pm.
